Activity Based Learning
Good Communication is the bridge between confusion and clarity - Nat Turner.
Keeping this in mind The Maalinyai School thought of something which would engage children in a good communication activity where they would speak, explain and answer the questions being asked through a wonderful activity - Around The World in which the students of class 7 and 8 participated enthusiastically. This activity aimed at enriching the speaking skills of children with a whole lot of entertainment for them. This activity required them to choose a country, research and speak about the history and origin of the country and cook one popular dish that belonged to the country. This activity also got integrated with social science and arts, as children did a lot of craft work to decorate their stalls and their files too. It also aimed at making them confident as they are sometimes stage shy. They also cooked a recipe, which made them realise that cooking is not only a life skill but an art. They spoke about their country, answered questions asked by the visitors to the exhibition. Here are a few pictures from the event.

CHRISTMAS FEST 2022
Christmas isn't a season, it's a feeling. - Edna Ferber.rn It was surely a Christmas to remember at The Maalinyai School. The school wore a festive look with bells, streamers, and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. The theme of the event was LEARN & EARN WITH FUN. Several activities such as games and food stalls were installed for the children but with a twist. This time they played to earn tokens which they utilized for buying food and hand-crafted Santas, snowmen Christmas trees, and Christmas cards. From Foundation to class 8 participated in certain dance and song performances and the children were told about the birth of Lord Jesus through a skit prepared by Prep 2. The children of classes 5 to 8 also assisted the teachers in setting up the stalls and selling the stuff prepared. The spirit of giving and sharing was inculcated among the tiny tots throughout the program by our anchors. The essence of Christmas came alive when Santa Clause himself walked around the children. The boundless joy of celebrating the festival was amply visible on the faces of the children especially when Santa moved around distributing sweets to them. The delightful celebration included children coming in red and white colour party dresses, bringing their favourite food to lunch, dancing, and sharing the merriment together.rnTake a peak at the fun we’ve had this morning!

MATHS WEEK - DAY 3
यथा शिखा मयूराणाम् , नागानाम् मणयो यथा ।
तदवद् वेदांगशास्त्राणाम् , गणितम् मूर्धनिस्थितम ॥
Like the crest of the peacock, like the gem on a snake’s head, so is Mathematics at the head of all knowledge.
Activity 1: Quadrometry, Class 8
The purpose of the activity was to prove that the sum of the angles of a quadrilateral is 360°. The students of class 8 were divided into two groups to perform this activity. Using mathematical resources, they created quadrilaterals, removed their angles, and joined the cut-outs to get the sum of the angles of a quadrilateral is 360°.
Activity 2: Let’s go shopping activity - Class 1
How to handle money is an important life skill that can be taught as soon as children can count, along with the difference between a “want” and a “need.” These concepts form the foundation for understanding the importance of spending, sharing, and saving. In this activity, a shopping complex was established and children were provided with dummy currencies with which they bought the things of their choice.
It was a fun-filled activity for children which helped them in recapitulating the concept of ‘money’ taught in the class. They learned to identify and understand the differences between the appearances and values of coins, count how much money is needed to purchase an item, and to count change. Also, understand that money lost will not be replaced, things cost money, and that working or getting an allowance are ways to earn money.

MATHS WEEK - DAY 2
The only way to learn mathematics is to do mathematics.
ACTIVITY 1: QUESTION MANIA - Usually teachers come up with the questions in the class during the sessions and seek responses but on the second day of the Math’s week, it was the other way round. The teacher came up with the answers and asked students to frame questions related to the answers through Question Mania activity. It was quite surprising to see that for one answer; a variety of questions were provided by the students of class 6. Through this activity the students were able to obtain, interpret, and use knowledge, facts, and data to build up the questions and demonstrate creativity and inventiveness either individually or collaboratively.
ACTIVITY 2: In another activity the students of class 5 were divided into 5 groups and were given riddles to solve for which they got the fraction as their answer. Then they took the chart paper to draw the fraction they have got as their answer. Students utilised all the concepts studied so far such as factors and multiples and DMAS.

MATHS WEEK - DAY 1
Math is seen everywhere and in everything we do. In fact we must have played many games which involved maths during our childhood. Hopscotch is one such game. It has many physical, social and cognitive benefits as well as it enhances mathematical skills that are beneficial for the child.
Children of class 2 played the Skip-counting Hopscotch Maze and the following questions puzzled them:
• Where to throw the dice?
• How to jump through the squares?
• Which feet should land in which square?
There was a lot going on including brain stimulating thoughts as well as physical work which made this game a great way to stimulate cognitive development. This game also enhances the Gross motor skills like balance and strength.
The children reinforced what they had learnt through this activity and were able to recall the concepts of odd numbers, addition, Subtraction, Even numbers, Table of 2 and 3 etc.

World Soil Day
Do we appreciate the ground beneath our feet? All life begins and ends from the soil. It’s the source of food, and medicine and filters our water, among others. Most of us take soil for granted and assume it will always be around. Soil is one of the most magical things on earth! Many of us do not understand or value the soil around us, In a true sense, healthy soil is quite important. The world would have no food security without soil. National soil day is dedicated to healthy, sustainable soil management and keeping it that way.
Children of classes 7 and 8 collaborated to create a 3D soil profile and discussed the importance of soil and its uses.

Field Trip - Tarumitra
Encouraging the holistic development of children during school years is important to help them become global citizens. As important as it is to learn in the classroom or labs, giving equal weightage to both indoor as well as outdoor activities like field trips is what will make children well-prepared for what lies outside in the real world. Field trips allow students to interact with what they are learning. The experience goes beyond reading a concept in a textbook as children are able to participate in it physically. Each experience solidifies learning and supports key academic theories.
The students of our school went to the Tarumitra bio reserve for a field trip. They witnessed a huge variety of flora and fauna reserved on 12 acres of land area. They saw and understood the ecological balance of nature and the interdependence of all living organisms. They have realized we owe so much to mother earth who has given everything required for our survival. They have seen organic farming and Sulabh Shauchalayas in which human excreta is decomposed and converted into useful fertile soil or humus. The trip helped our children understand waste management and develop a sense of responsibility towards our environment and how to conserve it to acquire sustainable development.
